Newsletter – August 2020

From the Commander

I’m sorry to inform everyone that our Parade that was to take place on the Labor Day weekend has been canceled. Hopefully we will be back to normal for all of the events to take place for next year, and that what we are going thru now is not going to be the new normal.

Thanks to everyone who paid their dues for the year, we are at 100% again this year.

We had a great turn out for our July Cruise-in at the post, and we will be having this thru the month of September on the last Saturday of the month.

August 15th at 2:00 We will be replacing the fabric on some of our bar stools at the post so we could use some volunteers to help us complete this much needed task.

In the month of October our District 8 will provide a bus that will be brought to our post for people to donate winter items for the people in need for this winter. The time and date will be finalized soon, and I will make sure to let everyone know as soon as our time is giving to us. This bus will be rotating around to the different VFW’s, so the date and times are still being figured out.

During this difficult time please check on your neighbors, friends and family, and make sure all are well, since not many of us are traveling very much.

From the Auxiliary

Can you believe summer is ⅔ over? Time has a different feel this year. The Auxiliary is feeling it too, but we’re not letting it slow us down.

Our lottery boards have been selling out quickly so if you want a ticket ask an Auxiliary member today! Once all tickets are sold, the drawing will be held the following Wednesday. We are trying to put together another board after each drawing. So if you don’t win this time you can try again soon!

Thanks to all who contributed their Acme receipts last year! We recently received our check totaling $192.35! The program begins again on August 1st and goes through December 26th. Any receipts dated during that time-frame can be dropped off at the Canteen until the end of January. We hope you will be generous and donate those receipts!

As you may already know, the national VFW Auxiliary and the national VFW offer scholarships and awards to students throughout the country each year. There are four: 1) Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest – grades 9-12; 2) Patriot’s Pen – grades 6-8; 3) Voice of Democracy – grades 9-12; and 4) Continuing Education – all active Auxiliary members and their spouse/child(ren). All information is available at https://vfwauxiliary.org/wp-content/uploads/2020-2021-Scholarships-At-A-Glance.pdf. Information packets will also be given to the Cuyahoga Falls City School District and the Woodridge Local School District. Please encourage any students you know to apply!

It may seem a little too early to be looking forward to the end of the calendar year but the Auxiliary has looked ahead on our schedule, all the way to December. As in years past we will move our meeting for that month to the second Monday, the 14th, to accommodate those who will be busy with families and other events the week of Christmas.

As we begin our new year (July 1, 2020 – June 30, 2021) we want to remind you to join us for meetings and to become more involved. We understand that finding free time can be difficult. Those members who are more active experience those very same issues. We are a team and count on one another for support to accomplish our goals. By participating more you will experience that same support. We look forward to seeing more of you this year!

Our next meeting will be Monday, August 17, 2020, at 7:00pm. Please note: our meetings are typically held at the Post. However, we recently met at another public location so that the Hall could be used to accommodate another group. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at vfwaux1062@gmail.com or through our Facebook page, VFW Auxiliary Post 1062 (facebook.com/vfwaux1062). Until then, please stay safe!
