Newsletter – June 2020

From the Commander

It has been awhile but our club has finally reopened and our temporary hours are Monday through Saturday from Noon to 10:00 PM and Sunday from Noon to 8:00 PM. Our kitchen is open from Tuesday thru Saturday from 5:00 thru 8:00 except Saturday the hours are from 5:00 to 9:00.

In order to try to limit the number of times that someone has to go to the bar we will be having a beer special on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. A bucket of domestic beers, 5 for $10.00 and a bucket of premium beer will be 5 for $16.00.

We will have our next Monthly drawing on July 11th. This is because first Saturday of the month is the 4th of July and a lot of people may be out of town or visiting with family and friends, so we changed the date to the second Saturday of that month. Sine we closed mid-March and we didn’t get to open until late May, we want to give everyone time to sign the monthly. So, we will be holding one drawing for the months of March, May and June. So, everyone has until the end of June to be included for the drawing.

Our Queen of Hearts has started up again on Wednesdays, but we have not yet resumed our karaoke at this time. We still have to practice social distancing so until those restrictions have been lifted or other options become available, we will have to continue with the current plan.

Our yearly memberships are increasing to $40.00 for the year and the social memberships are also going to be $40.00 and the new year starts July 1st.

We are going to have our first VFW cruise in on the 28th of June from 12:00 thru 4:00. I think this is a great way to bring people to our club and hopefully get us some new members. We will do this on the last Saturday of the month until September.

I want to thank everyone who helped put the Flags on the Veterans Graves for this year’s Memorial Day. We had a great turn out and I really appreciated the support from everyone.

From the Auxiliary

It’s June already! As you know, 2020 has been an interesting year so far, to say the least. While many of us spent several days at home, the Auxiliary was working hard remotely. As previously announced, we held our April meeting via video conference. For May, we chose to meet in person at the Post, but the meeting looked a little different. We sat spread out and masks were worn by most. This will be our new normal, at least for a while. We take the well-being of all members seriously. We hope that all active members will join us for future meetings and participate in this new style of gathering.

On May 17, 2020, the Auxiliary participated in the District 8 meeting via Zoom, a video conference service. This is the first time that a meeting occurred this way. During that meeting, our Auxiliary was recognized for reaching 100% membership! We are so excited to have reached this goal!

At our June meeting, we will be holding our Officer Installation Ceremony. We are still searching for two members (one in each) to hold the positions of Conductor/Conductress and Guard. If you are interested, please contact us at vfwaux1062@gmail.com. Duties for these positions can be emailed to anyone who is interested.

The VFW Auxiliary to Post 1062 Officers for the 2020-2021 year:

  • President Mary Frances McGraw
  • Sr Vice President Kathy Kalbach
  • Jr Vice President Janet Kerr
  • Secretary Stephanie Gobrogge
  • Treasurer Joyce Hickman
  • Chaplain Sam Griffiths
  • 3-Year Trustee Doris Maple
  • 2-Year Trustee Mary Munn
  • 1-Year Trustee Bennie Gobrogge

As we start to get back into the swing of things, many have asked about our next Lottery Board. Yes, we will have one soon. We hope that you will purchase a ticket (or more). Good luck!

Our next meeting will be held at the Post on Monday, June 15, 2020, at 7:00pm. All active members are welcome and encouraged to attend. Active members are all Life Members and all Annual members whose dues are paid for this calendar year. We hope to see you there!
