From the Commander

Fall is here and the VFW Celebrated 122 Years on the 29th of September. The Auxiliary also Celebrated 107 Years on the 14th of September.

Up Coming Events at the Post

Our Final Cruise-In of the year is Saturday, October 2, 2021 from 12:00 to 4:00pm. If you have haven’t come out for one, I hope you can join us for a great show. We are also hosting our Post Picnic from 12:00-6:00pm to thank everyone for a rollercoaster of a year! The Post will be providing hot dogs and hamburgers. We will ask everyone coming to please bring a side dish to share.

We will be hosting Stuff the Bus again this year in our parking lot on October 16th. Our slotted time should be from Noon to 2:00pm. They will be collecting winter items for the homeless and also for Veterans in need. All winter items are needed, socks, gloves, boots, any winter clothes that you may have. No summer items are needed just items for winter and cash donations are also accepted.

October the 31st our post will have Truck or Treat at our Post from 12:00-2:00pm. This will be indoors unless the weather is okay then we may also be outside in the pavilion.

November the 19th our post will be having a paint and sip at 6:00 Pm. If you need any information on this, get with any of our Auxiliary members

District 8 Up Coming Events

October 9th Fish Fry at Meander Post 9571, Ellsworth post at 5:00pm. They will offer Fish, Shrimp and Chicken Fingers for $13.00 A flyer will be posted with more details. They are doing a Fish Fry instead of their annual picnic.

District 8 Military Ball will be on Saturday, 5:00 Pm November 13th at the Acker-Moore VFW Post 4738. The deadline for reservations is October 31st. If you need tickets, I can tell you how to get them. No tickets will be sold at the door.

They are going to start a bowling league in the near future instead of having just golf for a fundraiser. A flyer will be posted with more information about this event as soon as we get it. 

Community / Veteran Events

On Saturday 2:00, November 13th, at the Community Vineyard Church 2543 State Road Cuyahoga Falls the Derbytown Chorus will be with the Canton Hall of Fame Chorus to present a concert to benefit area Veterans. The concert is free but donations are accepted.

If any of our Veterans need help with Mental Health issues the VA Wade Park in Cleveland has 16 Mental Health units that can give you help. I have the phone number available if anyone needs any help. If you need food assistance there is a place called Good Neighbors and they have a program which is the Emergency Food Assistance Program available and they are located at 1742 2nd St, Cuyahoga Falls and their phone number is 330-928-8057.  They also take monetary donations along with other items. If you want information on what items are needed, I have this list available.   

General Information

Our kitchen has a full menu again and is open from Thursday thru Saturday from 5:30-8:00. We continue to look for a part-time cook. If you know anyone that likes to cook and would like more details have them, come in and fill out an application or reach out to one of our Officers. Our Canteen meetings are the 4th Thursday of the month at 6:00pm. This meeting is open to all members of the Post. The Regular Member meetings are held the 4th Thursday of the month at 7:00pm. This meeting is open to all our Post Veterans that have a current dues card. There is a lot happening so I hope to see you at the post. Enjoy the colors of Fall because Winter will be here before you know it.

From Your Auxiliary President

The leaves are starting to fall and colder weather is among us.  This means Halloween will be here before we know it!!!  Please join us for “”trick or treat” at the post on Sunday October 31st from 12pm-2pm.  We will have hot dogs and drinks etc. along with passing out candy and a craft.    Calling all your children, nieces, nephews, grandkids, neighbors kids.  Help us make this a success.  We need volunteers to set up a station to pass out candy.  We need candy donations as well. Please let me know if you can help in any way. We need your help!!!

Mark your calendars for Friday November 19th for our second Sip n Paint party. Cost is $35 we will have a signup sheet as seating is limited. The last one we did went very well. It will include your supplies and you can take home your painting. No pressure it’s a no stress zone. The lady doing the party is very friendly and she gives is step by step instruction. You will receive a drink ticket and a cheese plate. Remember no judgment zone.  

We are looking for other fun activities we can do.  A few things that have been suggested is doing a vendor event to start off our holiday shopping. How about a Spaghetti dinner or a 50’s sock hop?  

I want to thank everyone who helped out at the expo we had it was a chilly day.
