Newsletter January 2021

From the Commander

Well, here it is 2021. I hope this year is better than it was last year in regards to all of the restrictions we had in place. As a reminder your membership dues are due for 2021.

Another reminder that we are closing in the evening at 9:30 until the restrictions change, hopefully that will be sooner than later.

Our Queen of Hearts is going strong so I hope to see you on Wednesday and also enjoy our food special for the day or order some food from the regular menu.

A reminder that our District 8 is having their annual Night at The Races at Newton Falls VFW Post 3332 on March 13th, the doors open at 6 Pm. If you need any information the flyer is on our post bulletin board and I have the tickets for you to purchase. The tickets are $25.00 each which includes food, 2 beverage chips and the races.

You can still purchase tickets for the Rubber Ducks 2021 Baseball Season, a small package with 4 undated ticket vouchers and a T-shirt. These ticket vouchers can be used all in one game or split into multiple games. If interested I will give you the information needed to get the tickets.

Hope to see you soon at the post.

From the Auxiliary

Happy New Year! Can you believe it’s finally 2021?!

By now all current members should have received a letter and questionnaire from the Auxiliary. Thanks to those who have already returned their forms. If you haven’t yet, please do so as soon as possible. We are using this information to improve the Auxiliary, including the way we communicate with our members and how we hold some events. We really do appreciate all the feedback.

Thank you to all who donated to the School Supply Drive! We were able to donate much-needed items to both Preston and Woodridge Elementary schools! The start of the 2020-2021 school year was difficult and confusing for many, but with your help it was made much easier for those students.

Have you purchased your Lottery Board tickets? Remember: the sooner the tickets are sold, the sooner the next drawing can take place. Tickets are available from Auxiliary members in the Canteen. Good luck!

At our December meeting, we were voted to sponsor one of our Sea Cadets for another year. We are so proud of these young people and can’t wait to see how much they learn and grow this year.

Sadly, also during our December meeting we performed a ceremony, called Draping of the Charter, that honors those Auxiliary members we have lost. This time it was for James “Buffalo” Allessie who passed away on December 4, 2020. Buffalo was well-known to everyone at the Post and we send our condolences to his family during this difficult time.

Again, happy new year! To paraphrase Colonel Potter (MASH): Here’s to the New Year. May she be a damn sight better than the old one, and may we all be finished with social distancing before she’s over.
