Newsletter – November 2020

From the Commander

I would like to thank everyone who gave winter donations and the cash donations for our VFW District Eight’s selfless service day “Stuff the Bus” on October 24th. It was a great turn out form our Post. If you were not able to bring in your donation, we will be collecting them until December 5th, we will take them to the District 8 meeting on December 6th.

Here we are in November already and Veterans Day is going to be here before we know it and I hope you can join us at Broad Boulevard and Front Street in Cuyahoga Falls where we will be having a guest speaker for the 2020 Veterans Day Service on November 11th at 11:00 am. After the ceremony our Post will have a few food items available along with a Veterans Day cake to celebrate our Veterans.

We are still collecting school supplies so you can just bring any items to the post and we have a yellow cardboard school bus that you could put the donations in the bus.

A reminder if you haven’t been to the Post for a while that we have our Queen of Hearts on Wednesdays and a DJ playing music on Fridays and Karaoke on Saturdays. I know this has been one crazy year but hopefully we will get back to normal soon.

I’m proud to announce on Veterans Day of this year The Museum of the United States Army is opening in Fort Belvoir Virginia. It was delayed due to the pandemic but it is finally opening. I also want to mention that next year’s Memorial Day Parade in Washington DC is honoring the Gulf War Veterans for the 30th Anniversary. So, if you know of anyone wanting to participate in this parade you can find this information on line or you could stop at our Post and I could give you the information about this event. Chris Perry and I will be participating in this Parade and if you plan on attending this event you need to make arrangement’s now because you will need to sign up for this soon. If you need a Hotel room, they are filling up quick, so don’t wait too long to make arrangements.

There will be Euchre every other Sunday at 2pm starting Nov 15th. There will be a $5 entry fee. Hot dogs will be available.

From the Auxiliary

It’s November! In a year that has, at times, felt like time was standing still, we have reached the month where we traditionally give thanks.

Veterans Day is Wednesday, November 11th, and as always members of the Auxiliary will be at the ceremony to lay the wreath. We hope to see you there.

At our October meeting we accepted applications from a new member and a transferring member. We hope to see them soon. We also initiated one new member, Jessica Knipl. Jessica jumped right in and will be purchasing all the supplies for Preston and Woodridge elementary schools and will be taking them to the schools along with your donations in the coming weeks. Thanks again for all of the donations!

Be sure to purchase a ticket or two (or more) for the latest Lottery Board! Our top-notch treasurer, Joyce Hickman, has been getting new ones up quickly after each drawing!

As the year starts its wind down, we acknowledge that this year has been tough on everyone in one way or another. Please know that the Auxiliary is still doing whatever it can to help our members, our Post, and our community. If you are in need of assistance, please reach out to us at vfwaux1062@gmail.com.

Our next meeting will be Monday, November 16, 2020, at 7:00pm. We hope to see all active members there! If we don’t see, we wish you a very safe and happy Thanksgiving!
