Newsletter – July 2020

From the Commander

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July; we couldn’t have asked for better weather. I’m happy to inform everyone that our post membership is at 100% and is actually over 100% from last year.

Our Post had its first car cruise in on June 25th and although it rained half way through it was a great time and a good turnout. I want to thank Don Sitts for sponsoring our cruise in. He donated cash and prizes and helped make it a great event. We are having the cruse in on the last Saturday of the month until September, and we are changing the hours to 12:00p – 6:00p, and hamburgers and hotdogs will be available to purchase. We are also adding Motorcycles to the cruise in. They will park at the bottom of the parking lot because its more level at that location.  So please get the word out about these changes.  I hope to see a lot more people at our July cruise in. Hopefully, the weather will be better.

The lottery board drawing winner will be drawn at this Wednesday’s Queen of Hearts. Also, our Monthly drawing will be this Saturday the 11th because we didn’t want to do the drawing the 4th of July weekend with so many people being out of town; so this would give everyone the opportunity to be at the drawing.

From the Auxiliary

Happy Independence Day! The Auxiliary wishes you all a safe holiday!

At our June meeting, the officers were sworn in for the new year that begins July 1st. We are looking forward to all of the opportunities that the new year brings. We have plenty to do and encourage all members in good standing to join in. Our purpose is to help and support our veterans, and the more the merrier.

As we wrapped up the previous year, we were informed that we received awards for our membership goals from both District and Department! We literally couldn’t do it without our members.

We know that it’s the middle of the summer so it seems a little too early to start thinking about school supplies but we will start collecting items this month. Look for the yellow school bus in the Canteen and deposit any supplies that you would like to donate there. We can accept money, checks, and gift cards. If you would like to help financially, this year we are providing envelopes that will be available at the bar. Simply enclose your donation and ask a bartender to place it in the Auxiliary mailbox. We appreciate anything you can do to help the students of the Cuyahoga Falls City and Woodridge Local School Districts.

We have a Lottery Board! Tickets are for sale at $2 each. Please see an Auxiliary member for tickets. We will pull the winning ticket the Wednesday following the sale of all the tickets. Good luck!

A quick reminder that the Auxiliary meets the third Monday of each month at 7:00pm. The July meeting will be on the 13th. We hope all of our members will join us at a meeting this year.

As for meetings, at the time of this writing Coronavirus cases are again on the rise. We are taking this situation seriously and understand that this can be discouraging to anyone who may be considering attending meetings. During the stay-at-home order that began in March, we did conduct our April meeting via a video conference service and should we need to we will do so again. In May the Auxiliary returned to holding in-person meetings where we sit several feet apart and many wear masks as a precaution. If you would like to become more involved but worry about attending meetings we can still get you the information you want. Please feel free to reach out to us via our email address, vfwaux1062@gmail.com. Please stay safe and we hope to see you soon.
