Newsletter – April 2020

From the Commander

I hope everyone is doing well. This is a real adjustment that we are all going through right now, and we really don’t know when this is going to end with everyone under lock down, and that we are not supposed to go anywhere unless absolutely necessary.  It was a very sad time turning down the heat and turning off all of the lights and not knowing when we will open back up for business. It is not going to be easy recovering from this shut down.

We did have our Memorial Day Parade Meeting and the Mayor has approved Labor Day as the backup date for the Parade. We just found out last night that the Parade has been officially moved to Labor Day. As of now we are still planning on putting the flags on the Veteran graves the Saturday before Memorial Day.

It is really something to see all of the business’s parking lots empty and having no idea when we can get back to our normal living. I hope this at least brings our family’s closer together and that we all realize that we took allot for granted. It’s tough not being able to visit our Friends, Parents and Grandparent’s for fear of someone getting this Coronavirus. May God bless all of us and I hope to see you all this summer at the VFW.

From the Auxiliary

From all members of the Auxiliary, we would like to take this moment to say that we are grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this great organization every day, but especially right now. As you know, our Post has had to close due to the stay-at-home order but the Auxiliary is still here, ready to help.

Due to the stay-at-home order, the Auxiliary did not hold its March meeting. The Post being ordered to close the day before and the confusion over how many people could gather led to the last minute decision. Better to be safe than sorry. Since then, an order has been issued by the national president (see below) encouraging all Auxiliaries to hold their April meetings either in person or electronic format. It has been decided that we will go ahead with our meeting via a video conference service to comply with the stay-at-home order in place until May 1st. Anyone interested in participating, please email our president, Mary Frances McGraw, at vfwaux1062@gmail.com. If you would like to participate by calling in on your telephone, please let her know so we can set up the best system.

EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 2

March 26, 2020

Pursuant to the authority under Section 810E, the first bullet, effective immediately, we ask that Auxiliaries, Districts, County Councils, and Departments, if possible and within the requirements of mandated Department Special Orders, make the attempt to elect officers. In the event that an Auxiliary, District, County Council, or Department chooses to hold a virtual meeting, a quorum is required. However, the requirement for the quorum to be onsite is waived. The virtual meeting may be held via phone-tele-conference or video conference or any combination thereof.

Executive Order No. 2 shall remain in effect until the COVID-19 virus restrictions are lifted for your area.

By order of Peggy Haake, National President

During this time when we have to keep our distance from even our families, we want to wish everyone a Happy Easter and Happy Passover! We were not able to hold our Easter event this year but we hope to have some family-centered events in the fall. We will update you via our monthly newsletter and our Facebook page, VFW Auxiliary Post 1062, when events are scheduled.

Please be safe! We look forward to seeing everyone again soon.
