Newsletter – November 2019

From the Commander

November is here, and I want to thank all Veterans for all of the things that they went through, and for the many sacrifices that they made. This Veteran’s Day, I hope to see a lot of you at our 11:00 Ceremony at the flag pole on Broad Blvd and Front Street. Our guest speaker this year is a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran, and I hope you can join us this year and to thank him for his service, and that of all our Veterans. Our post will be having a luncheon at 12:00 following our ceremony, and we will be serving sauerkraut and sausage. We would appreciate it if people would bring a side dish to share.

I also want to thank all of the family members and friends who supported all of us Veterans, because of the substantial changes and sacrifices made for our benefit.

Another important thing that will happen this month is the fall of the Berlin Wall on November 9th. I was in Germany at that time, and it was really something to be a part of; to see both East and West Germany reunited again 30 years ago.

I want to announce that our Post Canteen will be closing at 8:00 PM on Sundays. This is due to the fact that we are not seeing a lot of business at that time. If the demand increases on that night, then we will consider staying open later.

We have formed a committee on activities and fundraising. If you have ideas that you would like to run past the committee please contact Keith VanBuskirk or Robert McKnight. One idea that has come up a couple of times was to play a game called “Show Me the Money”. We will be starting this on Fridays. Stop by the Post for details or reach out to Keith.

There is a lot happening throughout the week, so join us at the post and enjoy some good times with our fellow comrades and friends.

Due to the holiday, our meeting this month will be on November 21st.

From the Auxiliary

Leaves are changing and the Auxiliary is growing!

At October’s meeting, our District 8 president, Renell Noack, visited to complete our annual audit. She joined us for our meeting and met everyone who attended. Before the meeting, she met with our president and treasurer to check our books and make sure that we are meeting expectations. She shared her insight with us and announced that we passed our audit with flying colors!

During that same meeting, we had two members from other Auxiliaries transfer to our team and we look forward to getting to know them.

We received two letters of thanks in October: one from VFW Post 3338 for a donation for their Stand Down for veterans in need; the other came from Woodridge Elementary School for the supplies we donated at the start of the school year.

Speaking of school supplies, we also donated supplies to our neighborhood school, Preston Elementary. The day the supplies were dropped off, photos were taken by a photographer for the Falls News Press.

On October 5th, our treasurer, Joyce Hickman, who is also a Cub Scout Master, held a flag retirement ceremony with 21 of her scouts. Thanks to all who donated flags for the ceremony.

We locked down the date for the Cuyahoga Falls Chamber of Commerce’s “Falls After Five” event in January. The date is Thursday, January 16, 2020. We hope all Auxiliary members will be able to attend. It’s a great way to meet other Chamber members!

The Lottery Board will soon be back! The drawing will now take place the Wednesday after all tickets are sold. See an Auxiliary member for tickets!

Our next meeting will be held on Monday, October 18th, at 7:00pm, in the Post hall. We invite all Auxiliary members to attend.
