Newsletter February 2019

From the Commander

Winter has arrived and I hope everyone is enjoying all of our recent snow fall, every day we are closer to SPRING!

Our Dining Hall wood trim is now installed so the hall is now finished and it looks amazing! I want to thank Charlie, Larry, Mark. February 9th from 12:00 thru 5:00 our post is having a Family Freedom Festival which will take place in our newly remodeled Dining Hall. There will be different tables with vendors set up. We will have a table for information on how to join our VFW and what we are all about and our Auxiliary will also do the same. This will be a chance for us to show off our Post and tell the community what we are about.

Our Post Lenten Fish Fry’s will start on March 8th and go thru April 19th, we can use help from our members during this time this is allot of work for just a few people so please remember many hands make light work and this event makes our post some much needed funds.

I’m hoping that our next project besides the parking lot will be to purchase some new bar stools for our post. I know they are in bad shape and we will replace them when we can. We are going to be selling some tickets for the Rubber Ducts games when the season starts this spring, their will be more information on this once the Officers work out the details. District 8 is having a night at the races at the Newton Falls Post 3332, on March 9th. Join us at the post for the super Bowl and cheer on your team, I hope to see many of you at the post.

Auxiliary

Another successful Bingo night at Kentridge Senior Living on January 8. They all seem to have a great time and the next day they rave about the snacks we bring. Thanks to all you who participate in this activity.

Our lottery board continues to be a success. Our last winner was Barb Lawless. Congratulations! The Acme community cash back program has been completed. We gathered receipts totaling $2165.37 of which we will get a percentage. Also the box tops for education were counted (63) and we will get them delivered to a school this month. Thanks to all of you whom contributed to these great causes.

February 9 we are having a Family Freedom Festival from 12 to 5p in our hall. We have asked the chamber to participate and have several vendors lined up for the day. We want to get information out to the public about what the organization is all about. Any proceeds are being donated to students at St. Joe’s school in the Falls for their trip to Washington D.C. Please join the auxiliary in this first ever festival at the VFW. Our next meeting is February 18 at 7p. Hope to see you all there.

Canteen

We have hired a new cook, please welcome Lisa Jones. We are going to start her off working Tues – Friday and the hours of the kitchen will be 4:30 to 8:30 PM. Currently she will work the menu as is and once she is good to go she will start up the “Specials” again. Thank you for being patient as our kitchen was down while we were short-handed. Our goal is to be open to provide our patrons a friendly atmosphere while enjoying the company of friends and getting a little something to eat at an affordable price.
